Ever wonder what it's like to start a race from last place? Here's how I started a race from the back of the line. I was invited by Honda Performance Development (HPD) to debut the 2015 Honda Fit during a World Challenge TCB race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. I really enjoyed driving the nimble new Fit and qualified on pole.
Since HPD was testing the vehicle and not running for points that weekend, I started the race from the back of the grid (and by "back," I mean 11th out of 12 cars in the race). Yikes. However, it was for the right reasons--and I was allowed to move up the ranks if it was possible. It was a good opportunity to drive the Honda Fit to its limits to see what it could do. Still, it seemed like my work was cut out for me. Taking advantage of the beginning of the race when the cars were close, I passed a lot of vehicles and by the end of the race, was able to finish in third place. The brand-new Honda Fit had proved itself able and it was a great debut for the vehicle. Who would have known that starting from last place wouldn't be too bad after all? |
